Since Wetherspoon took over this former hotel, it has increased the variety and popularity of real ale in the town. With the arrival of manager Gary Winning, the pub has become a thriving, friendly local, popular with families, diners and regular ale drinkers who have enjoyed a varied selection of real ales served in excellent condition. As a result the Clydesdale has also earned an entry in the CAMRA 2013 Good Beer Guide.
The first hoto shows Branch Chairman Robin Jones (left) handing over our award certificate to Gary Winning with staff and regulars in the background.
The trip included a visit to the most important parts of the Clydesdale's cellar, guided by cellarman Scott Blacklaw.
The celebration was supported by two brewers who are regular suppliers to the Clydesdale. To the right is Strathaven Ales' April Eadie, who supplied samples of the full range of Strathaven's beers.
Lower down Carl (in the blue shirt) and Caroline (applauding) of Houston Brewery help to celebrate the Clydesdale's success with pints of Warlock Stout.
The final photo shows the Clydesdale's Real Ale Corner. Here customers can write down the beers they would like to see in future and post their requests in the miniature post box.
Naturally, for a town with a proud history of Victorian splendour, the post box is a hexagonal "Penfold", the original red pillar box.
