13/01/2019Nick SimmondsThe Bank bar in Muirend is closing from 13th January for refurbishment, scheduled to re-open at 5pm on Friday 25th January. The manageress has confirmed that cask ale will be retained. She is a real ale fan, and when sales took a dip a couple of months ago she launched a social media campaign to highlight that the pub sold a changing range of ales, which has paid dividends in turnover. On my last visit the Strathaven Claverhouse was in very good condition, and previous visits have seen ales from Ayr, Kelburn and Loch Lomond, so good to see support for local(ish) breweries, and at a very reasonable £3.25 a pint. I suspect that because the Bank is on the fringes of the city - it is yards from the East Renfrewshire boundary- it often gets overlooked by local members. However, it is only a couple of minutes walk from Muirend station and is also on the First Bus 4 and 6 routes, so very easy to reach.
